Premium Damascus VG10 Steel Billet Blank – 100x30x2.5mm (Heat Treated)
Big performance comes in compact packages. Our Damascus VG10 Steel Billet Blank (100x30x2.5mm) is designed specifically for makers focusing on high-precision, small-scale builds. Whether you are crafting a custom everyday carry (EDC) friction folder, a liner lock folding knife, or a specialized detail carving tool, this premium blank provides the ultimate blend of legendary Japanese steel performance and striking Damascus beauty.
Built utilizing classical “San Mai” sandwich styling, this billet encases an ultra-hard VG10 stainless steel core between outer layers of stunning, pattern-welded folded steel. It’s tough, holds a razor edge, and visually elevates any custom build to heirloom status.
Why This Compact Billet belongs in Your Workshop
1. Sized Perfectly for Pocket Knives & Folders
Don’t waste expensive steel. Standard large billets require heavy stock removal to downsize for folder scales or small EDC blades. Our 100mm (approx. 4 inches) by 30mm (approx. 1.2 inches) dimensions are tailored specifically to maximize material efficiency for smaller blades, significantly reducing your grinding and cutting time.
2. The Heart of VG10 Stainless Steel
The cutting edge of your knife relies entirely on the core steel. VG10 is widely considered a gold standard in premium pocket and culinary cutlery. Enriched with cobalt, carbon, and vanadium, it achieves an incredibly keen edge that resists rust, corrosion, and dulling far better than budget steels.
3. Fully Heat-Treated & Flat Ground
Because thin 2.5mm steel is highly prone to warping under the extreme heat of a forge or kiln, we’ve done the hard work for you. This billet arrives flat, normalized, and professionally heat-treated. Lay out your blade design, scribe your lines, and head straight to the grinder with absolute confidence.
4. Breathtaking High-Contrast Patterning
The multi-layer cladding on either side of the core is folded to form striking visual wave patterns. After you grind your bevels, polish your blade, and perform a quick acid etch, the contrasting steel layers reveal a flowing, ripple effect that frames your cutting edge beautifully.
Quick Grinding & Etching Tips:
-
Manage Friction Heat: While grinding, dip the blade frequently in water. Because the billet is pre-hardened, letting it get hot enough to discolor (blue/purple) can ruin the temper.
-
Clean Before Etching: Once your blade is polished to your desired grit (800+ recommended), wipe it clean with acetone to remove every trace of grease or fingerprints.
-
Bring Out the Pattern: Dip the blade into a bath of diluted Ferric Chloride (usually 1 part acid to 3 parts distilled water) for 5-10 minutes. Wash thoroughly, neutralize in a baking soda and water bath, and wipe down with knife oil to seal in the gorgeous high-contrast pattern.
